Sclerotherapy is a special treatment
for reducing and eliminating the
symptoms of spider veins.

The treatment requires the doctor to inject a specially formulated solution directly into the spider veins, causing them to collapse and close off completely. Once that happens, the blood flow is redirected to other healthier veins nearby.

Many people suffering from spider veins are interested in receiving sclerotherapy to treat their condition because it is a minimally invasive procedure with a high success rate. Sclerotherapy has a long track record of reducing uncomfortable and painful symptoms associated with spider veins, such as burning sensations, night cramps, aching, and swelling.

Most treated patients will see these symptoms decrease within a couple of weeks after getting sclerotherapy. However, it could take as long as two months before all the symptoms are gone, depending on the severity of the spider veins. Your doctor will advise you more about this.

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive
procedure with fewer risks

Every medical procedure comes with some level of risk. Fortunately, sclerotherapy comes with fewer risks since it is a minimally invasive procedure. Most patients only experience minor symptoms after the treatment. Some might include the following:

Minor skin sores
Raised redness
Bruising
Several small visible red blood vessels
Dark lines or spots in the skin In rare situations, a patient may develop inflammation, an allergic reaction, or a blood clot from the procedure.

If you have any questions about this, you can ask the doctor at any time before or after the procedure.

The Steps of the Sclerotherapy Procedure

A vascular surgeon is the medical professional who will advise you and perform the sclerotherapy procedure. Here are the steps involved throughout this process:

  • 1) You will consult the vascular surgeon to learn more about sclerotherapy. They will perform a physical examination and review your medical history to ensure you are eligible for the procedure. The doctor will want to learn about your past or present medical conditions, smoking habits, allergies, and any over-the-counter or prescription drugs you take.

  • 2) If all is well, the surgeon will set you up for an appointment to receive the sclerotherapy.

  • 3) You will come to the surgeon’s office on the appointment date. They won’t give you any anesthetic because it is not necessary for this procedure.

  • 4) The surgeon will ask you to lie back on the examination chair with your legs somewhat elevated. They will cleanse the treatment area on your legs with alcohol.

  • 5) The doctor will slowly insert a fine needle into the area and inject the treatment solution into the spider vein underneath the skin.

  • 6) The doctor will take out the needle and apply a compression pad to the area to prevent blood from flowing into the injected vessel.

  • 7) From there, the doctor will do the same thing to every other spider vein while leaving the compression pad on each treated vein. The number of administered injections will depend on how many spider veins you have and how big they are.

  • 8) Once the procedure is over, you will be allowed to get up and walk around like normal. The dermatologist will encourage you to move around to get the blood circulating in the legs and avoid potential blood clots from forming.

  • 9) You will need to wear compression stockings or bandages on the treated areas for 1 to 3 weeks to keep pressure on them.

Patient Reviews

“Went to the Secret Vein Clinic because I had severe varicose vein symptoms for years. I used to wake up with terrible pains and cramps in my legs. Dr Mann examined me and I immediately felt comfortable during my consultation with him. He listened to my concerns which very few doctors really do. The staff was very helpful with the insurance paperwork and in getting authorization for my ablation procedure. Dr Mann was truly caring and very professional and I could tell he was very adept at what he was doing. He took care of those larger ugly bulging veins. Now I have legs that I don’t have to be embarrassed about. ”

“I am in my mid 20’s and I have battled with varicose veins my entire life. From this I have physically felt heaviness and emotionally have struggled with wearing shorts or outfits where my legs were exposed. I was referred to this clinic from my ER doctor after they confirmed my issue was not going to resolve itself. Feeling as if I was out of options.. I decided to try The Secret Vein Clinic. From the second I walked in I was greeted with top notch customer service. The place is beyond clean and everyone is extremely knowledgeable and educated in what they are doing. You can tell Dr. Mann is not only a specialist at this but this is also his passion. With confidence, I began undergoing my treatments with Dr. Mann where my varicose veins were SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. This had been something I have wanted my entire life! I am not only feeling more confident in my shorts but I feel like my entire life got a lift! THANK YOU SECRET VEIN CLINIC AND THANK YOU SO MUCH DR. MANN!”

“Both of my parents suffered from varicose veins so I knew it would probably experience it in my lifetime. Sure enough I started noticing my varicose veins when I was around 40 years old. At first I just tried to hide them, but after a few years I decided I wanted to do something to treat them and get them better. I have been seeing Dr. Mann ever since and my sclerotherapy procedures have been going very well. I am blown away by the results. My only regret is not coming to this vein clinic sooner!”
