The EVLT™ Procedure (endovenous laser therapy) – has replaced vein stripping, the traditional treatment for varicose veins in San Diego. Vein stripping was a major surgical procedure requiring hospitalization, general anesthesia and several weeks of recovery time. During Endovenous Laser Ablation, the physician uses ultrasound technology to guide a thin laser fiber into the vein through a very small opening (puncture wound as compared to making an incision). Pulsed laser energy delivered to the diseased vein wall closes it off and eliminates backflow at the source. Only a local anesthetic is used to avoid pain during this procedure.
